# OTP/2FA Forwarding via iMessage

> Auto-forward verification codes from email to your phone in seconds.

When a service sends a verification code to your email, Slashy's agent extracts just the code and texts it to you via iMessage. 3 seconds instead of 30.

<Info>Requires the [iMessage agent](/how-to-guides/imessage-setup) to be connected.</Info>

## AutoFill Codes on iPhone

On iOS 18 and later, the Slashy app can offer emailed one-time codes above the keyboard in matching apps and websites, so you can fill a code without switching to your inbox.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn it on">
    In the Slashy iOS app, open **Settings > Mail > Verification code AutoFill** and tap it. You can also tap **Enable** on the AutoFill card that appears on an email containing a code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow the iOS prompt">
    iOS asks you to confirm Slashy as a source for verification codes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use it">
    When a site or app asks for a code, Slashy suggests the code from the matching email above the keyboard. Tap to fill it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Slashy only offers a code for the service that sent it, and codes expire shortly after they arrive.

## Set Up the Automation

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the agent sidebar">
    Press `Cmd+/`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the trigger">
    Type: *"Create an email automation: when I receive an email with a verification code, OTP, or two-factor authentication code, send me the code on iMessage immediately."*
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The agent creates a trigger matching common OTP patterns: subject lines with "verification code," "security code," "one-time password," plus body content with 4-8 digit codes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How It Works

1. Verification code email arrives
2. Trigger fires within seconds
3. Agent extracts the code (not the full email)
4. You receive an iMessage: *"Your verification code from GitHub: 847291"*

## What Gets Detected

* Numeric codes (4-8 digits) and alphanumeric codes
* Magic links with embedded tokens
* Codes in subject lines or email body
* Codes from banks, SaaS apps, social platforms, developer tools

## Customize the Trigger

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Reduce False Positives">
    * *"Only forward codes with 'verification' or 'security code' in the subject"*
    * *"Don't forward marketing emails that contain numbers"*
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Catch More Codes">
    * *"Include emails with 'login code' or 'confirm your identity' in the subject"*
    * *"Include magic link emails too -- send me the link"*
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | Fix |
| - | - |
| Code not forwarded | Check that iMessage agent is active (send it a text). Verify automation is enabled in Settings > Automations. |
| Code arrives too late | Typically 3-10 seconds. Check email sync if delays persist. |
| Wrong emails forwarded | Narrow the trigger: *"Update my OTP automation to only match emails with a numeric code and 'verification' in the subject."* |
| iMessage agent not responding | Send a text to reactivate. See [iMessage setup](/how-to-guides/imessage-setup). |
