# Can I add Slashy to an iMessage group chat?

> Add Slashy to a group chat so it can answer when addressed, and see what linked members can ask it to do.

You can add Slashy to an iMessage group chat. Slashy joins as one more participant, follows the conversation, and answers when someone speaks to it. Members whose phone numbers are linked to a Slashy account can ask it to check their own mail and calendar right in the group.

## Add Slashy to a group

    In the group, add the same Slashy number you text one-to-one.

The group works automatically once a linked member is in it. There is nothing to turn on.

## How Slashy answers

Slashy sees the list of people in the group and the recent messages. It replies when a message is meant for it and stays silent during regular conversation between members. If several Slashy numbers are in the same group, only one of them replies.

Slashy answers after a short pause, so a rapid burst of messages gets one answer instead of several. If a newer message arrives while it is working, the older reply is dropped.

## What linked members can do

| Who is asking | What Slashy can do |

| A linked member | Look up their own email, calendar, and reminders. Answers appear in the group. |
| The member who sent the latest message | Also act on their own account: draft, send, or cancel a scheduled email, manage labels, create or change calendar events, and set reminders. Sending follows the same approval rules as a one-to-one chat, so Slashy may ask you to confirm first. |
| Another member's account | Slashy can consult someone else's Slashy only when that person's [team sharing](/features/settings/team) covers everyone in the group. |
| A guest (not linked) | Can chat with Slashy. Slashy will not open anyone's private mail or calendar while answering a guest. |

<Note>Team sharing gives read access only. Nobody can make Slashy send email, change events, or set reminders on another person's account.</Note>

Reminders you ask for in a group are delivered to you privately, not to the whole chat.

## What stays private

* Slashy in a group does not use your one-to-one conversation history, your saved memories, or connected [MCP tools](/how-to-guides/connect-mcp-servers).
* What happens in the group does not change your one-to-one iMessage conversation with Slashy.
* Slashy can read files shared in the group, so you can ask about a document another member sent.
* Everyone in the chat sees Slashy's replies, so ask for private details in a one-to-one chat instead.

## Limits

* Groups work in iMessage text chats. SMS and other messaging apps are not supported.
* Slashy does not leave a group or react to messages on its own.
* If the linked member Slashy was answering under leaves the group, Slashy starts a fresh conversation with a remaining linked member and does not carry over the earlier history.
