# Referring friends to Slashy

> Share your personal referral link so a friend skips the payment step, and track who has claimed it.

Referrals let you send someone a personal link that skips the payment step at signup, the same way an invite code does, but tied to you instead of a shared code.

## Get your referral link

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings">Press `Cmd+,`, then choose Referrals in the sidebar.</Step>
  <Step title="Copy your link">Click Copy next to your personal referral link.</Step>
  <Step title="Share it">Send the link directly, or use one of the quick-share options below.</Step>
</Steps>

You don't have to go through Settings every time:

* **Command palette.** Press `Cmd+K` and type "Refer" to copy your link instantly.
* **Contact panel.** Open a contact's sidebar and click Refer to Slashy to send your link to that person by email.

## Referrals vs invite codes

Both skip the payment step at signup, but they work differently:

|          | Referrals                               | Invite codes                         |
| -------- | --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| Tied to | Your personal account | A code shared by anyone who has it |
| Tracking | Shows in your Settings → Referrals list | Not tied to an individual |
| Best for | Inviting people you know | Broader sharing, events, communities |

See [Redeeming an invite code](/getting-started/invite-codes) for how the code path works.

## Eligibility and claiming

Anyone without an existing Slashy account can claim your referral link. They paste it during signup the same way they would an invite code, or it's pre-filled if they clicked your link directly. Once they finish connecting their inbox, your Referrals list shows them as Claimed.

## Cancelling a pending invite

A referral you've sent but that hasn't been claimed shows as Pending in Settings → Referrals. Click Cancel on that row to revoke it. A cancelled link no longer works if the recipient tries to use it later.

## Rate limits

To keep referrals from being used for spam, Slashy caps how many you can send in a given period. If you hit the limit, the Referrals page shows when you can send more. Existing pending and claimed referrals aren't affected by the limit.
